Andrés Ponce Ruiz Jr. (born September 11, 1989), also known as Andy Ruiz Jr., is a Mexican-American professional boxer. He is a former unified heavyweight champion, having defeated Anthony Joshua to win the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO titles in June 2019, only to lose them in a rematch with Joshua in December of the same year. In doing so, Ruiz became the first boxer of Mexican heritage to become a world heavyweight champion, and second Hispanic world heavyweight champion overall. As of November 2019, Ruiz is ranked as the world's best active heavyweight by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, second by BoxRec and third by The Ring magazine. Personal life Ruiz resides in his hometown of Imperial, California; he graduated from Imperial High School in 2007 and is married with five children.
